KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, officially known as Koninklijke Luchtvaart
Maatschappij N.V. (translated: Royal Aviation Company, Inc.), is the national
carrier of the Netherlands. KLM's headquarters are located in Amstelveen, with
its primary hub at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol.
Founded in 1919, KLM holds the title of the world’s oldest airline still
operating under its original name, employing over 35,000 people and operating a
fleet of 149 aircraft as of 2021.
The merger of the Air France–KLM
holding company was finalized in September 2004, resulting in the creation of
the largest airline group globally, with an expected annual cost-saving between
€400 million and €500 million.
KLM is part of the Air France–KLM group
and a member of the SkyTeam alliance. As of December 2024, KLM and its partner
airlines operate services to 163 destinations across 70 countries on five
continents, with Amsterdam Airport Schiphol as their central hub.
