Young children traveling without a parent or legal guardian are considered to be
Unaccompanied Minors. If you are allowing your child to fly alone as an
unaccompanied minor, be sure to take every necessary precaution to ensure his or
her safety.
The service is required for children aged 6 to 11 traveling alone without an
accompanying adult who is at least 15 years old on international journeys. It is
also required for children aged 5 to 11 on domestic routes. For children aged 12
to 15, using the unaccompanied minor service is not compulsory but available
upon request.
Children younger than 5 on domestic flights and under 6 on
international flights are not permitted to travel unless they are accompanied by
an adult aged 15 or older. All airlines maintain the right to ask for official
proof of a child's age.
These policies may differ, however, so you should check with Qantas Airways for a description of its rules and services and any additional
charges that may apply.
