Young children traveling without a parent or legal guardian are considered to be
Unaccompanied Minors. If you are allowing your child to fly alone as an
unaccompanied minor, be sure to take every necessary precaution to ensure his or
her safety.
As outlined in Saudia's Unaccompanied Minors Policy, children who have
reached their 5th birthday but have not yet turned 12 years old and are
traveling alone, or are not accompanied by an adult over the age of 16, are
classified as unaccompanied minors.
Children under 5 years of age will
not be accepted under any circumstances. Children aged 6 to 7 years can only be
accepted on nonstop or direct flights and must be accompanied by a parent or
responsible adult until they are safely onboard and the aircraft has departed
the gate. The child must be met at the destination by another parent or
responsible adult.
Children between 8 and 16 years old can travel on
nonstop, direct, or connecting flights. Reservations must be confirmed for the
final destination. The child must be accompanied by a parent or responsible
adult until they have boarded and the aircraft has left the gate. Upon arrival,
the child must be met by another parent or responsible adult. A service fee will
be applied for unaccompanied minors on all flights.
Saudia assumes no
responsibility for unaccompanied minors before they are checked in at the
departure airport or after they are handed over to their designated custodian
upon arrival at the destination.
The maximum number of unaccompanied
minors allowed on Saudia flights will not exceed the number of cabin crew
members working on the flight. All unaccompanied minors must carry written
consent from their parent or guardian authorizing travel. If interline carriage
is involved, approval from the participating carrier must be obtained before
confirming the reservation.
To ensure the unaccompanied minor is safely
handed over to a Saudia flight attendant, a ground staff member will personally
escort the child to the aircraft.
Upon arrival, the cabin attendant will
transfer the unaccompanied minor to Saudia’s contracted ground handling team.
This staff will look after the child until they are picked up by the designated
escort as per the handling advice.
These policies may differ, however, so you should check with Saudia for a description of its rules and services and any additional
charges that may apply.
