Young children traveling without a parent or legal guardian are considered to be
Unaccompanied Minors. If you are allowing your child to fly alone as an
unaccompanied minor, be sure to take every necessary precaution to ensure his or
her safety.
If your child is traveling alone, Malaysia Airlines Special Assistance Crew
is available to provide friendly support and guidance. This service is mandatory
for children aged 5-12 traveling without an adult.
Malaysia Airlines
offers a special program for unaccompanied minors (YPTA), which applies to
children who have reached their 5th but not their 15th birthday and are not
traveling with a parent, guardian, or an adult passenger aged 18 or older.
(Please note, the conditions under which minors are allowed to travel may vary
depending on the point of departure.)
For this reason, we recommend
contacting your nearest Malaysia Airlines office for further information.
If there is a long wait before boarding, your child can relax and enjoy
light refreshments in the Malaysia Airlines Special Assistance Lounge. When it’s
time to board, they will be escorted to the gate and handed over to the cabin
crew, who will ensure they are settled in comfortably.
Upon arrival,
Malaysia Airlines staff will accompany your child through immigration and
baggage collection, then hand them over to the designated guardian at the
arrival gate.
This service must be requested when booking the ticket.
These policies may differ, however, so you should check with Malaysia Airlines for a description of its rules and services and any additional
charges that may apply.
