Young children traveling without a parent or legal guardian are considered to be Unaccompanied Minors. If you are allowing your child to fly alone as an unaccompanied minor, be sure to take every necessary precaution to ensure his or her safety.

Ethiopian Airlines Unaccompanied Minors Policy

Ethiopian Airlines defines children between the ages of 5 and 11 years old who are traveling alone as Unaccompanied Minors.

An escort service is mandatory for unaccompanied minors aged 5 to 11 traveling on a codeshare flight, but it is optional on Ethiopian Airlines flights, provided that the guardian requests special attention.

Ethiopian Airlines also considers youth between the ages of 12 and 17 as unaccompanied minors if special attention is required by the youth’s parent or guardian. If the flight is operated by Ethiopian Airlines (i.e., a non-codeshare flight), there is no need for an escort or service fee for a minor between 12 and 17, unless special attention is requested.

However, if the flight is not operated by Ethiopian Airlines (i.e., a codeshare flight operated by another airline), a minor aged 12 to 17 will be required to pay an adult fare, plus the applicable service fee for the sector as detailed on the official website. However, an escort service is still not mandatory on codeshare flights unless special attention is requested for this age group.

Note: For the age group 5 to 11 years, if an escort is requested, the applicable charge is Child Fare + One-way Adult Fare for Escort + Service Charge.
